The Journals of Dan Eldon

Dan Eldon created most of his journals between the ages of 15 and 22, although several small notebooks created previously are included here among his earliest books. He started his more formal journals in 1985 for a school anthropology trip and an English class. At the same time, Dan was beginning to travel around Kenya more often and to take more photographs. Both his adventures and his images made their way into his books. You can read more about the journals in this excerpt from Dan Eldon: The Art of Life, by Jennifer New.

Jules Goldman Books & Antiques

Today we will be meeting in Old City at Jules Goldman Books & Antiques. We are starting off the "History in Philly" section with a place that is full of treasures from the past.

Homework Due Tuesday Feb 10.
In your sketchbook, create a drawn fictional history for an object that you discovered at Jules Goldman. Speculate about it's past and future through drawing. You may use any medium and are encouraged to fill multiple pages with drawings, labels, notes and ephemera.

Consider the following:
Who did it belong to?
Where did it belong?
What did it once look like?
What is it's significance?
How did it end up here?
Where will it end up?

On Tuesday we will be meeting at Vox Populi Gallery, 319 N 11th St. It is very easy to get there from the 23 bus that leaves from right outside Tyler on 12th st. When you arrive at Vox, ring the buzzer on the door, and you will be buzzed into the gallery- take the stairs to the 3rd floor and meet in Vox Populi's lobby. We will be reviewing your homework assignment at Vox.
